Beating the Winter Blues

I love the snow. It's true, I really do. I enjoy living in a place that has 4 seasons. I think I would get bored living where it was sunny every single day of the year. Now having said that, I do admit that it can get hard being cooped up all day and not being able to go outside and enjoy some fresh air. So here are a few of the things that Molly and I do to "beat the winter blues."

1. The Library
The library is great-Molly loves going there and so do I! I love to read and I love to be surrounded by books. Yes, I would rather buy myself books than clothes. So to me, the library is always an enjoyable trip. At the library, we put on puppet shows and read all the books that we want.
We also attend the storytime they have for kids once or twice a week (our library offers it Monday-Thursday!). Usually they read 3 or 4 books, sing songs, and have a coloring page to take home. Molly is shy so she is afraid to get off my lap, but she always says that she loves it. So we continue to go.

Before we leave we make sure we get a stack of books and maybe a movie to keep us entertained at home.

2. Barnes and Noble
Again, another place filled with books, so I am happy. :) This may seem like a weird place to go but it's fun for Molly as well. There's a little train that she enjoys playing with as well as...Storytime! Yes, that's right, another storytime. But this one always involves a fun craft and a treat at the end. Today it was a cupcake, which was a special treat for Valentine's Day.

3. The Mall
Molly can play in the Dino-land park area (an indoor playground equipped with slides and other fun things for toddlers), play in the cars (I never put money in them and she seems happy!), or look at the water (which she finds fascinating). Last week, she came over to me at the fountain and said in a whisper, "Mom, there is poop in the water." She now knows that it's money!

4. Play at home!
There are those days that we don't get anywhere, and being the home-body that I am, that's okay with me. I don't feel like I have to go somewhere everyday, and so on those days that we stay home, we just play. Molly loves to have tea parties; we do this probably everyday. We dress-up her ponies, build towers with her blocks, read the stack of books we brought home from the library, and color, to name a few. We've even been indoor bowling. When Daddy was home last Saturday we had a movie party and watched the movie Molly picked out from the library. We ended up all falling asleep but that was okay!
So what does everyone else do for fun? We are always up for trying new things!

I have been meaning to do the library thing - such a good idea. And I need to get in on some of that treat action at Barnes and Noble. Anna actually enjoyes the toys/rides better when I don't put the money in. LOL. Better for her imagination anyway. Molly is so cute. I can't believe how big she is getting.

You are such a fun mom! Okay, so Molly looks so cute with those pigtails sitting at her tea party. I'll have to remember these ideas for when Gav gets a little older.

Don't you love the time with your little girl! I think girls are so fun to play with. Sounds like you and Molly have found a lot of great things to do together this winter. I don't have a lot to add, but I know that Jane LOVES to do little craft projects. We usually make decorations for the upcoming holiday, we have made maracas, we used a diaper box to make a rocket/car, we have colored little pictures and taped them on popsicle sticks for puppets (this works great for a fhe lesson too because then Molly can keep telling the story), and we made foam letters and butterflies to put on Jane's wall. Jane also likes to help me work. She likes to help vacuum, wash dishes, switch laundry, and I even have her find the matches for me to fold her socks. Good luck in your winter entertaining....From the looks of the snow today, we still have a few months of it left. Love ya!
