June 19-20
In June we had the first-ever Fletcher Family Reunion (Justin’s mom’s side). Molly and I picked Justin up from work and headed to Heber “to camping,” as Molly said. (She referred to camping as a destination rather than an activity.) Justin had Saturday off work and Molly could hardly contain her excitement-she got to go camping, sleep in a sleeping bag, and play with her cousins!
(Yes, those are her cousins. Meet Tiana, Andrew, and Lizzy. I think they were excited to be there too.)
What more could a 2-year-old want? And there was plenty to keep her happy. Things like...
...roasting marshmallows...
...playing in the bunk beds...
...riding in the very back of the Suburban...
...canoeing...
...and digging in the sand...
Hmmm, maybe that was a grown-up activity?
We slept in cabins, all 16 of us in one, and the kids slept the best. We were all worried about the kids waking each other up, but they slept pretty sound! I don’t think any of the adults slept too much-between the snoring and the shushing of the snoring and the tossing and turning and the hard bed despite the mattress pad...(not to mention being 6 days away from having a baby!) let’s just say it wasn’t the best night’s sleep I have ever had. But who really expects to sleep well when you’re camping?
We got poured on during lunch on Saturday and were about to pack up and head home when the rain let up long enough for us to try out the “challenge course.” (This was a church camp, so it was run by couple missionaries.) First up was the high swing. It looked like tons of fun but for some reason (maybe something to do with the harness), they said that pregnant women weren’t allowed. Bummer.
We then moved on to a few teamwork obstacles, like this one that the whole family participated in. We had to have so many people on the little wooden circles before we could send someone to the next circle. Molly was not a big fan-that is her clinging to Justin’s neck.
We timed everything just about right with the rain that we had. It rained right after we were done canoeing and it rained again when we were finished with the challenge course. A fun weekend!
